I had been taught this concept by Dr. Brown while at GBS, and recently shared it with some of my youth group. I hadn't heard the direct quote as being from her, simply the concept of levels of conversation. Anyone can talk about other people (and do); fewer people talk about things/events; fewer still talk about ideas, and this really is a higher level of conversation. And it takes some thought to get there.
As to discussing nothing, well, maybe that means one has no mind at all. =)
